We are running this tag sale in the historical “Peter Jayne House”, which was built
in 1724. The house has a fascinating history, in the years preceding the Revolutionary
War, the “Committee of Safety” held their meetings in the upper part of the house.
Well known citizens of the town including General Glover, Elbridge, Gerry, Dr. Story and Colonel Lee also held meetings there as part of the “Tuesday Evening Club.” The Philanthropic Lodge of Freemasons convened at the home as early as 1760.
The Methodist Church was organized there in the late 18th century and General Samuel Avery, a Brigidaire General of the Mass Militia was also one of the former owners.
The last family to reside at the house were there for 57 years and we are now selling
personal property from their estate, with pieces ranging from the early 1800s through the 1970s.
There will be paintings, etchings, a collection of framed Franklin Mint pictures from the
“Portfolio of Western Art Prints, sterling silver including two Franklin Mint plates, several beautiful antique stained glass windows, primitives, books, a large copper horse which was part of a weather vane, large pond boat, ship models, lamps, Oliver Ditson violin, Verdura guitar, large Doll & Richards picture frame, fireplace tools and andirons, Georgian inlaid box and other antique boxes, nautical items, large ornate gilt mirror, pair of phoenix ginger jars, oriental rugs, lanterns, tall soldier statue with spear, and many antiques.
Lots of toys from the 1950s and 1960s including car models, board games, Revell 1961 slant six engine model (pieces still sealed in plastic), Nylint and Tonka trucks, hot rod magazines, trains, antique wicker doll carriage.
Antique country furniture to include a green painted sea chest, several tool chests, stenciled chairs, paymaster desk, jelly cupboard, two gateleg tables, oak bookcase, side tables, Eastlake rocking chairs, 6 custom mahogany dining room chairs, school master desk, cobbler’s bench, two spinning wheels, yarn winder, Singer mannequin, red painted cart, also yard tools and hand tools and lots more!
Numbers Saturday by 9am
The sale will be conducted on the first floor and garage of the house.
